How Shipowners Choose a Crew Management Company: 5 Key Criteria

1. Qualification & Compliance

A legitimate crew management / seafarer dispatch company must hold a seafarer dispatch agency licence, meet paid-in capital and dedicated management staff requirements (including personnel with senior officer seagoing experience), and be filed with the competent authority. Qualification is the baseline — verify it before any cooperation.

2. Crew Supply Stability

Examine crew-pool size, the share of in-house/signed crew, and attrition rates. A stable supplier ensures timely crew changes and avoids off-hire losses — pay special attention to reserves of management-level ranks (Master, Chief Engineer, Chief Officer, First Engineer).

3. Training & Certificate Management

Does the company run systematic training (safety, operations, emergency) and certificate renewal reminders? Expired seafarer certificates are a leading cause of PSC detentions — certificate management capability directly determines compliance risk.

4. Safety Management System

Does the company operate a mature safety management system (SOP/DOC), with safety tracking and care for crew on board? A sound system stops hazards before they become incidents.

5. Crew Care & Stability Culture

Crew are long-term assets. Care practices (timely payroll, family communication, on-board quality of life) drive retention, and higher retention means steadier operations. Rongjuxiang started from its own 8 vessels and builds all five criteria to a high standard — cooperation with shipowners is welcome.
